Tanesha J. (TJ) Espey is a highly committed public servant who currently serves as a Portfolio Manager for the United States Department of Agriculture, Food Nutrition Service, Office of the Administrator. Joining in November 2022, TJ brings extensive expertise in providing technical advice, project, and portfolio management for a range of high-visibility initiatives. Notably, she plays a crucial role in executing Executive Order 14058, which focuses on Transforming the Customer Experience and Federal Service Delivery to Rebuild Trust in Government.

Prior to her tenure at the USDA, TJ made significant contributions to the Department of the Navy, where she held the positions of Program Control Manager and Deputy Program Manager for MyNavy IT Solutions. In this role, she led efforts to create and maintain IT systems and applications to support all Sailors, their families, and future recruits throughout the Navy’s “Hire-to-Retire” life cycle.

TJ’s management career in public service began in 2013 when she was selected as a Presidential Management Fellow (PMF) with Health and Human Services (HHS), Food and Drug Administration. Starting as a Management Analyst, she quickly advanced through various roles and spearheaded several critical initiatives supporting IT execution, data and performance management. Eventually, she rose to the position of Director of the Program Effectiveness Office (PEO) in the Office of Operations at HHS. Additionally, TJ established and chaired FDA’s first-ever Project Management Community of Practice (CoP).

Beyond her professional accomplishments, TJ Espey proudly served in the United States Army and has earned numerous military and civilian awards for her outstanding contributions. Her commitment to education is evident through her academic achievements, having earned an M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Troy University, along with a B.S. in Health Education and an A.S. in Business Management. Moreover, she further honed her leadership skills through the completion of the Federal Executive Institute’s Leadership for a Democratic Society Course.
