Speaker Bio:
Katelyn James is a Ready New York Outreach Coordinator for the New York City Emergency Management Department. Katelyn began working at NYCEM in 2013 as an intern and created New York City’s first outreach campaign focused primarily on college and university students which is still active today. In 2014, Katelyn joined NYCEM as an Outreach Coordinator focusing on teaching youth the essential steps in emergency preparedness. Since 2014, Katelyn’s program has trained over 55,000 students across the city and has visited hundreds of schools. In 2015, she launched Ready Girl, the emergency preparedness superhero that has created a new platform for teaching kids on safety and preparedness. In May of 2016, Ready Girl launched a comic book with Marvel Custom Solutions. In June of 2016, Ready Girl received an award by the National Association of Government Communicators. Katelyn has appeared on Good Day New York, CBS, Fox 5, and New York 1 representing NYCEM and sharing the work of Ready Girl. Katelyn graduated from Pace University in May of 2014 with a degree in Political Science and Peace and Justice Studies and will start at New York Law School in the Fall of 2016.
